ABOUT THE POSITION

Reporting to the Corporate Director, Hospitality Group, the Operations Manager – Burlington has overall responsibility for every aspect of the Bruce Peninsula Operations and its properties and for the performance of each individual staff. The main emphasis in this role is on customer service, the key objective being to deliver a world-class hospitality service and to create unique and memorable experiences for our Collaborators (staff members) and every Guest.

Employed to address queries from Guests, keep Guests informed of relevant issues and generally provide administration services to assigned properties. Facilitate an enjoyable and smooth Guest experience and to generate sales and revenue for the Company.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial

  • Establishes the departmental annual operating budget in advance for approval by the Corporate Director – Hospitality Group.
  • Ensures that the departmental operating budget is strictly adhered to and that all costs are strictly controlled.
  • Reviewing finances, overseeing hiring practices based on departmental budget.
  • Checking on necessary supplies and placing orders, following brand standard practices in various sectors of the operations.

Administration

  • Attends meetings and briefings with other departments as determined by the Corporate Director, Hospitality Group.
  • Ensures that all reports and correspondences are completed punctually and accurately.
  • Reviews existing policies in their department and initiates new ones, for approval, as required.
  • Submits monthly report to the Corporate Director, Hospitality Group, detailing the operation’s activities for the past month and planned activities in the ensuing month.

Personnel

  • Ensures that all Collaborators report for work punctually, adhering to the company’s wardrobe policy at all times.
  • Assists in the building of an efficient team by taking an active interest in their welfare, safety, training and development.
  • Ensures that Collaborators have a complete understanding of and adhere to company’s Code of Conduct.
  • Interviews and subsequently selects potential Collaborators in liaison with the Corporate Director, Hospitality Group and HR Department.
  • Conducts Collaborator’s performance appraisal and reviews their general performance and discuss results with the Collaborator concerned regularly (performance reviews.
  • Conducts department orientation program for new Collaborators to ensure they understand the policies and operations of the properties.
  • Ensures that Collaborators always provide a courteous and professional service.
  • Counsels Collaborators for any breaches of conduct and observe policies when issuing formal disciplinary notice (progressive corrective action as required).

Operational

  • Monitors the Collaborator’s skills within the operation and plans training programs to rectify any service deficiencies.
  • Conducts regular briefings with the Collaborators ensuring good communication at all times.
  • Be a point of contact for all Guest enquiries.
  • Direct the housekeeping Collaborators, overseeing scheduling and light maintenance planning.
  • Hands-on approach with willingness to jump in and clean properties under their designation, especially during slow business periods.
  • Liaise with various departments, such as HR, Accounting, Marketing, etc., as requested or necessary.
  • Deal promptly with any issues as and when they arise. Meet and greet Guests at least once throughout their stay, based on company policy.
  • Make sure that the accommodations are managed effectively, and all operations are run in an efficient manner.
  • Maintain health and safety standards, supervising and training Collaborators.
  • Oversee product stocking, accounting, and marketing efforts at the property level. Ensure that all supplies, from housekeeping materials, décor, to furniture, are in good condition and in stock.
  • Monitor Guest billing in relation to additional fees as required; ensure proper documentation is provided.
  • Ensure positive Guest experiences by maintaining high-quality facilities and remedying problems.
  • Conduct property and grounds inspections to make sure that they are immaculate.
  • Keep abreast of local happenings in order to recommend activities to Guests unfamiliar with the locale.
  • Be knowledgeable with regard to all property facilities.
  • Ensures corrects staffing levels in accordance with expected business demands and that overtime is minimized and authorised.
  • Be a willing Leader at all times. Accepts and performs special assignments within or outside their operations as requested by the Corporate Director, Hospitality Group or Senior Management.
  • Keep abreast of all company policies and code of conduct by reading and understanding all guidelines issued pertaining to such matters; and performing such duties and functions as specified in the guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • College degree in a related hospitality program.
  • Previous experience managing luxury properties.
  • Proven financial acumen.
  • Ability to deal with queries from Senior Management and Guests.
  • Keep Senior Management informed of relevant issues and information.
  • Superior leadership and management skills with emphasis on supervision and development; ability to manage and interact with diverse workforce and Guests.
  • Strategic and proactive thinker; problem solver.
